Missions

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations

Matthew 28:19

Our Church’s charitable ministries focus on local causes where we feel we can have an immediate, positive impact on the needs of Terrell, America. In 2019, FUMC Terrell was honored at the annual Martin Luther King celebration for our service and support of those in need in our community. We support the following local ministries with our gifts, our hearts, our hands and our time:

Ministries of FUMC Terrell

W.H. Burnett Early Childhood Center

This TISD school teaches Head Start and Pre-K students ages 3-5. For the past two years and again for the 2020 / 2021 school year, FUMC Terrell is proud to have partnered with TISD to “adopt” all 25 classrooms and their teaching teams with $200 financial gifts to be used for classroom decorations, organization and supplies.

Terrell Share Center

This ministry has provided assistance to Terrell and Kaufman County including canned, refrigerated and frozen groceries, clothing, GED and ESL classes and job training since 1995. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, FUMC Terrell was providing personal hygiene and house cleaning supplies that typically are not provided by food banks or retail partners. During the pandemic, the Share Center is not accepting private donations, so our Church members have been making much needed monetary support.

Serenity Corner

This Church located at the intersection of Rockwall Ave and Grove Street in Terrell offers listening ears, loving hearts, accepting arms, and sensitive spirits to Terrell’s homeless, housing challenged and addicted. FUMC Terrell provides hot meals for 20-30 people one Friday per month as well as winter coats, underwear, socks. In our Sanctuary we have our “Live to Give” donation station where people can drop off food items for the Serenity Hearten Bags that are distributed twice a week to our homeless.

Missions Outreach

We have a Missions Committee that meets to discuss emerging issues in our community as well as planning for future activities like Angel Trees and Burnett teacher appreciation events.
Funding for these efforts comes directly from our annual Church budget. We have many veterans in our Church, so we also provide financial assistance to Cadence International, an evangelical mission that provides a Christian presence to our young military members that are on deployment or extended assignment in the far East.
