Alison Hunt
Methodist Day School (MDS) Director and Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Hunt has been teaching for a total of 6 years, of which 4 has been at MDS. Mrs. Hunt received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, specialization in reading, from Texas A&M at Commerce in 2001. In addition, Mrs. Hunt has taught at Presbyterian Kindergarten as a Kindergarten aide and at J.F. Kennedy Elementary in Terrell as a first grade teacher.
Mrs. Hunt grew up in Kaufman and has been married for 31 years and has three children. The Hunts live on a farm in Terrell.
Mrs. Hunt's philosophy of teaching is that she enjoys helping every student reach his or her potential. She sets high expectations and tries to make learning fun.
Melodie Harris
Classroom Teacher for the 4 year-old Pre-Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Harris has been teaching for a total of 12 years, 7 of which has been at MDS. Mrs. Harris received her Bachelor's Degree from University of North Texas in Interdisciplinary Studies, specialization in Early Childhood. Mrs. Harris taught first grade at Daffron Elementary in Plano for 5 years before moving back to Terrell. At Methodist Day School she has taught several classes including Kindergarten, 4 year-old Pre-Kindergarten class and Kindergarten Academy.
Mrs. Harris grew up in Terrell and has always known the importance of education because her father was a school superintendent. Mrs Harris and her husband stay busy in Terrell raising their twin boys and daughter.
When you ask Mrs. Harris what her philosophy in teaching is, "I believe preschool children learn best through play. I want each child to be a self directed learner. Young children have such a desire for learning. It's a joy for me to observe and encourage them in the classroom."

Joyce Lewis
Classroom Teacher for the 3 year-old Pre-School Class
Mrs. Lewis has been teaching at Methodist Day School for 15 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and attended graduate school at East Texas State University. Mrs. Lewis worked on her master's degree, taking several classes in curriculum and reading, but has not completed the master's program.
When you ask Mrs. Lewis to tell you about herself, she will tell you I am originally from San Antonio, but I have lived in Terrell since graduating from college having moved here with my husband. I have 2 college boys - both in Lubbock."
Mrs Lewis' philosophy is that the preschool and kindergarten years should be the happiest time in school. This is when children learn to be away from their parents and learn to trust other adults. They learn about themselves and other students and they begin to learn they are competent and important.
