Turkeys For Your Thanksgiving Meal

This month, the United Methodist Men (UMM) are kicking off one of our 2011-2012 fundraisers that enable us to do mission work for such worthy causes as upgrades for the Kaufman County Children's Shelter, Healing Hearts, and various projects for our own church.

This year we are going to travel a different path and offer Cajun injected and seasoned deep-fried turkeys (cooked in peanut oil), just in time for your home Thanksgiving feast. 

If you have never tried turkey prepared like this, now is your chance. You will probably never have a more moist and flavorful bird on your table. We will be offering 14-16 pound turkeys for $30 each that we will cook fresh on Saturday, November 19. Our customers will be able to pick up their treats that evening (or home delivery can be arranged if required), complete with instructions on how to store and reheat your bird for your Thanksgiving meal.

How do you get this YUMMY deal? The UMM will have sign-up sheets available in the Sanctuary and in the church office through October so you can reserve your bird and so that we can get an accurate count of turkeys and the supplies, equipment and cookers needed. 

Sign up early, as quantities will be limited due to cooking capacity and time.

Goal: Help local residents who may not have the resources or family to provide for needs. Here is how you can help.

Types of Skilled Work: Roofing, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, flooring, repair, gutters, fence repair, ceiling fan, window frame/panes, tree trimming.

Unskilled: Painting, yard work, baking goods or serving meal for park celebration, children's activities, changing batteries/light bulbs/air filters, visiting home-bound.

Funds: Many individuals do not have the funds to pay for materials for these projects.

Youth Projects: Singing in nursing facilities, changing batteries, organizing uniform closet for TISD.

Please let us know that you are able to help prior to October 9, so we can assign you to a work team.

SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER 9, 2011

7:00 a.m.    - UMM start cooking breakfast of pancakes and sausage.

8:00 a.m.   - Breakfast is served for LFYN workers and participants.

8:30 a.m.  - Worship service starts (wear work clothes) Note: No Sunday School or 10:50 a.m. service on this Sunday!

9:15 a.m.   - Meet in the Fellowship Hall to finalize work assignments and go to work.

5:30 p.m.  - Wrap up event/dinner in Ben Gill Park Pavilion (workers and recipients can share).

The next breakfast for the United Methodist Men (UMM) will be Sunday, July 10, 2011 in the Fellowship Hall.  Bobby Aga will be our guest speaker talking about  plans for training and deploying Emergency Disaster Response Teams to help victims of natural disasters.  Everyone is welcome!  Please join us!

The United Methodist Men made a visit to the Kaufman County Children's shelter, August 28th. During our visit there were 6 kids at the home ranging from an infant to teenagers. We played with the kids on the playground, cooked burgers and dogs and had a fun family style meal with the whole gang. It was Lots of fun!

The United Methodist Men held a car wash to raise funds for the Kaufman County Children's Shelter. Some of the FUMC Youth also helped. They raised more than $600!
