Community Easter Service
Perhaps the most important day of the year for Christians is Easter. Not because of a bunny or baby chickens. Not because of new clothes or gifts. Not even as a celebration of spring. Easter is important because it is Resurrection Sunday—the resurrection of Jesus from the dead happened two thousand years ago.
The Resurrection is celebrated every Sunday. In fact it is because Jesus rose from the dead that Christians began to worship on Sunday instead of on Saturday as had been the tradition of the Jews. It is the resurrection of Jesus that gives credence to all that Jesus taught and did while he walked the earth. It is the resurrection of Jesus that confirms his death on the cross was for the forgiveness of sins. It is the resurrection of Jesus that validates his claim to be the Son of God.
The apostle Paul had many significant credentials according to the Jewish traditions of his day, but he was willing to give up all of those credentials in order to experience the power of the resurrection which gives us reason to have hope in the face of death. He wrote, “ I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself. If there was any way to get in on the resurrection from the dead, I wanted to do it.” [Philippians 3:10-11 (MSG)]
Four United Methodist Churches in Kaufman County have a burning desire for everyone to know the power of the resurrection of Jesus. In order to share their joy with the community they are hosting an Easter service for the community on Saturday, April 3, 2010.
The churches involved are Aley United Methodist Church, College Mound United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Kaufman and First United Methodist Church of Terrell. The Terrell church will host the service at 7 pm on Saturday. The entire community is invited.
